What Is an AI Rap Video? Trends, Types and How to Make One (2026)

An AI rap video is a short clip where a person from a photo raps, lip-synced, to an AI song. How the trend works and how to make one for $9.90.

An AI rap video is a short, usually vertical clip in which a real person, built from a single photo, raps a song to the camera with their lips synced to the words, and both the video and often the song are made by AI. Most clips run 5 to 15 seconds and are made for TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. The format took off in September 2026, when the "Hotel Lobby" two-person booth clips went viral and searches for "ai rap video generator" jumped from a few dozen a month in the US to about 1,000 (Google keyword estimates).

What the videos look like

Almost every AI rap video has the same three parts:

  • A face. One clear photo of a person, or of a dog or cat. The AI keeps their face, hair, skin tone and outfit and makes them move: head nods, hand gestures, mouth shapes.
  • A song. A rap verse or hook. Some tools reuse a trend's audio, some ask you to bring your own track, and some write and produce an original song for you.
  • A set. A recording booth, a stage, a street at night. The person raps straight to the camera, like a music video or a freestyle session.

The joke or the charm comes from the gap between the person and the performance: your quiet uncle spitting a hype verse about his barbecue, your best friend rapping a roast about always being late, a coworker getting a birthday rap, the family dog dropping bars about stolen socks.

Three examples made on GetRapVideo

Each one below was made from the single photo on the left and a free song from our song step. The people and the dog are AI-generated portraits, not real, so we could show results without using anyone's face. Tap play with the sound on.

Photo of a red-haired woman with glasses in a green denim jacket

Mia, birthday vibe, pop rap beat. A half-body photo outdoors became a booth performance: glasses, freckles and jacket carry over from the photo.

Photo of a golden retriever sitting on a lawn

Max the golden retriever, comedy beat. A pet photo stays a dog and raps with its own mouth.

Selfie of a young man in a navy hoodie in a living room

A selfie in a hoodie, trap beat. An ordinary indoor selfie is enough.

Where the trend came from

Short AI music clips had been around since 2025, but rap videos made from photos became a wave in September 2026 with the Hotel Lobby trend: two people trading lines on one microphone in an orange booth, modeled on Quavo and Takeoff's 2022 COLORS performance of "Hotel Lobby". Complex reported on September 27, 2026 that the trend spread on TikTok from a version starring two cats. A wave of look-alike generator sites was registered in the week that followed. You can read more in the Hotel Lobby AI rap trend explained.

Since then the format has split into a few recurring types:

How AI rap video tools work

There are three kinds of tools, and it helps to know which one you are using:

  1. Song-only tools. AI music apps write and sing a rap track, but give you audio, not a video of a person.
  2. Video-only tools. You upload a photo and either reuse a trend's audio or bring your own song. Reusing a famous track can get your post muted or blocked.
  3. Song-to-video tools. The tool writes the lyrics, makes an original song, and then makes the person in your photo rap part of it. That is what GetRapVideo does.

How GetRapVideo makes one

  1. Say who raps and what about. Type a name, a topic and a vibe (hype, funny, roast, love, birthday or Christmas). AI writes the lyrics for free, and you can edit every line.
  2. Hear the full song free. Pick a beat (trap, boom bap, drill, pop rap, latin trap or comedy) and a male or female voice. The whole song takes about a minute. Your first song each day is free, and each video you buy adds 2 more.
  3. Pick 15 seconds, add a photo, pay. Choose the part you like best and upload one clear photo of a person or a pet with the face visible. The person raps that part to the camera in a recording booth, lip-synced, with your song as the soundtrack.

You get a 15-second, vertical 9:16 MP4 with sound, usually in about 5 minutes, on the page and by email. Each video is $9.90, or 3 videos for $19.90. If a video fails, its credits come back automatically. The video model is MiniMax H3, a third-party AI video model; the songs are original AI songs made for you. Is it legal and safe to post?

It depends on two things: whose face and whose song.

  • Faces. Only use your own photo or the photo of an adult who said yes. Real rappers', celebrities' and public figures' faces are off limits, and so are photos of minors.
  • Songs. Copying a famous rapper's voice or using a copyrighted track is where most problems start. GetRapVideo never provides original trend audio, and every song is newly made, so your clip does not reuse someone else's recording.
  • Labels. TikTok, YouTube and Instagram ask you to mark realistic AI content. Use the platform's AI label when you post.

FAQ

How long is an AI rap video?

Most trend clips are 5 to 15 seconds. On GetRapVideo each video is 15 seconds, vertical 9:16, with sound.

Do I need to write the lyrics myself?

No. AI writes a verse and a chorus from a name, a topic and a vibe. You can also paste your own lyrics. See tips for better AI rap lyrics.

Can I use a famous rapper's voice or song?

No. GetRapVideo makes original songs only, with no real artists' voices and no copied tracks.

Is GetRapVideo free?

Writing and editing the lyrics is free and unlimited, and your first full song each day is free; each video you buy adds 2 more songs. The video is paid: $9.90 each. Details in is there a free AI rap video generator.
